If you are a repeat visitor to Walt Disney World and you like to use “No Expiration” tickets over the course of multiple visits, I highly recommend buying them now, while they are still available.

I believe it is likely that Disney will be eliminating the “No Expiration” option on Magic Your Way tickets very soon, probably when the MyMagic+ system with RFID-tagged tickets/wristbands is rolled out.

The “No Expiration” option has already been removed from the new Walt Disney World tickets website and it has also been removed from the ticket booth signs, though you can still have the option added at the ticket booths if you ask for it specifically.

For the best prices on No Expiration tickets, check out Undercover Tourist. Walt Disney World Announces MyMagic+

As part of an effort to make it easier for guests to make the most of their visit, Walt Disney World recently announced a new technology: MyMagic+. This technology, expected to begin rolling out in phases at Disney World in the near future, will make it possible for on-site guests to select FastPass attractions before they leave home, make changes on the go, and reserve firework and parade viewing areas.

MagicBand, a colorful all-in-one wristband, connects all the choices made online; on-site guests can use their MagicBand to enter their hotel room, purchase food and merchandise and enter the park and their selected FastPass attractions.

Some elements of MyMagic+ will eventually become available to off-site visitors as well, but of course will not include on-site elements such as hotel room entry and charging privileges.

Click here for more information and watch for more details as Disney finalizes its plans. Disney Junior – Live on Stage!

Disney Junior – Live on Stage! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is periodically updated to feature the latest, most popular characters and stories from the Disney Junior line-up on television.

In 2013, the top-rated Doc McStuffins and Sofia the First join the show. The new version of Disney Junior – Live on Stage! debuts at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in mid-February.

What’s New, What’s Next in Dining at Disney

Look for the Mickey Check on the kids’ menu at Be Our Guest Restaurant, the first location to offer “Kids’ Complete Meals” featuring the Mickey Check, part of Disney Magic of Healthy Living, and on all quick-service menus at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. The Mickey Check helps identify nutritious food choices.

California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort gets a major makeover and will be closed from February 1, 2013 until Summer 2013. Chef Brian Piasecki also is tweaking the menu, but the focus will remain on fresh, seasonal creations.

Citricos at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa now offers a private dining experience in The Chef’s Domain for up to 10 guests. Available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, cost is $155 per person plus tax (includes gratuity) for six courses.

The next generation of food courts is open at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, where Landscape of Flavors features five mini shops serving breakfast, lunch and dinner — and diners can customize choices. Tandoor ovens add an Indian-African flair, and fresh fruit smoothies are a hit. Guests also can find burgers, soups, pizzas and other favorites.

Bernard and Shirley Kinsey Collection Comes to Epcot

The American story of determination, courage, hope, struggle and inspiration will be told through more than 40 pieces of art, artifacts, books sculptures and documents on display at Epcot. The American Adventure Pavilion will be home to the Kinsey’s personal treasures of African-American art and history, amassed from their travels to 90 countries with some works dating to the 17th century.

The Kinsey Collection is the intersection where art and history meet, a virtual history book opened wide, giving voice to untold stories of accomplishment and contribution.

After previews during African-American Heritage Month in February, the Kinsey Collection is scheduled to open in March 2013. The Kinsey Collection, at the American Heritage Gallery, will be included in Epcot admission.

ESPN Wide World of Sports Hosts Drew Brees Passing Academy

The Drew Brees Passing Academy and Tournament, a four-day football camp and 7-on-7 event for high school players, makes its debut at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, June 27-30, 2013. Brees, the New Orleans Saints’ All-Pro quarterback, and other NFL stars will provide insider tips and hands-on training on the art of the passing game as well as offer three days of highly-competitive 7-on-7 competition.

If your starship can make the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs, set your hyperdrive for the Disney’s Hollywood Studios sector for May and early June, for the 2013 edition of Star Wars Weekends.

This year’s Force-filled fun will take place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from May 17 – June 9, 2013. Many details are still being finalized, but James Arnold Taylor and Ashley Eckstein are returning as celebrity hosts for the annual special event. James is known to Star Wars fans as the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi on the Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series. Ashley, who started her show business career as a parade dancer at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, is the voice of Anakin’s ambitious Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, on Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

James is the Official Celebrity Host of Star Wars Weekends 2013, and Ashley is Celebrity Host of “Behind the Force,” a live show that takes fans behind-the-scenes in the Star Wars universe.

Located in the Castle Courtyard in the center of Fantasyland, Princess Fairytale Hall will be the new home for Disney princesses to meet their loyal subjects in the Magic Kingdom. The castle-like entrance will feature walls of stone and stained glass windows opening up into a large gallery — an airy space with a high ceiling — where portraits of the Disney princesses adorn the walls. When it’s time for their audience with a princess, guests will proceed to elegantly finished chambers to meet Aurora, Cinderella and other Disney princesses, such as Tiana and Rapunzel. Coming in 2013.

The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will take guests on a rollicking, musical ride into the mine “where a million diamonds shine.” The family-style coaster will feature a first-of-its-kind ride system with a train of vehicles that swing back and forth, responding to every twist and turn of the track. The journey will be accompanied by music from the classic Disney film and animated figures of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Coming in 2014.

Do you find it challenging to find an affordable Walt Disney World resort to accommodate your family of five or six? Does your family enjoy spreading out and unwinding in some extra living space after a long day at the theme parks? How would you like separate sleeping areas for adults and kids instead of one shared room?  Do your kids love the Disney/Pixar characters in Finding Nemo, Cars, The Little Mermaid and The Lion King?

If so, Disney has a new resort for you!

Completed in the fall of 2012, Disney’s Art of Animation is inspired by classic Disney and Pixar animated movies. Your kids will be thrilled at the colorful Nemo, Cars or Lion King themed Family Suites staring at $252 per night. Each of the 1,120 suites are 565 sq ft, sleep up to 6 guests and feature 2 separate bathrooms and 3 separate sleeping areas, including a private master bedroom and a table that transforms into a bed! A kitchenette equipped with a coffee maker, refrigerator, microwave and sink allows for limited meal preparation. Disney’s Art of Animation also offers 864 Little Mermaid themed standard rooms (265 sq ft) that sleep up to four in two double beds starting at $100 per night. Click here to learn more about Disney’s Art of Animation.

The theming at this Disney Value Resort is over-the-top, in the best way possible. Everywhere you turn, you are surrounded and immersed in the art of Disney magic and Imagineering genius. Disney’s Art of Animation boasts the most expansive collection of 3-D character sculptures on property, including Nemo, Dorie, Crush, Ariel, Flounder, Ursula, King Triton, Simba, Mufasa, Lightning McQueen, Mater, Sarge and Fillmore. The exteriors of the buildings display larger-than-life Disney illustrations based on the four sections of the resort: Cars, Finding Nemo, Lion King or the Little Mermaid. The photo ops are endless!

Disney’s Art of Animation is home to the largest resort pool on property. With zero entry, an underwater sound system, wet and dry play yard and a pool bar, “The Big Blue Pool” is more like a Nemo-themed water park filled with laughing, splashing guests. After dark, take a dip here while you watch a Disney movie under the stars. There are also two smaller quiet pools located in the Cars and Little Mermaid areas.

Animation Hall is the centerpiece of the resort, where you will find check-in, a food court, gift shop and an arcade. From black and white sketches to brilliant, full color images, the story of Disney animation comes to life in the décor of this resort hub. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the Landscape of Flavors is no ordinary food court. You will be pleased to discover American and international choices including tandoor oven roasted meat and veggies, warm baked naan bread, Mongolian grill, fresh low-fat smoothies, buckwheat waffles and hand scooped gelato. As a healthy option, you can create your own salad, pasta, burger, omelets, frittatas or yogurt parfait.

Small World Vacations agents toured Disney’s Art of Animation resort and loved it! They explored this resort and have first hand knowledge to share with you. Read our agents’ blogs from our annual agent education program in Walt Disney World.

Disneyland (California) Discounts Exclusive Rates at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel & Water Playground

Heading to Disneyland in California and looking for a quality hotel that won’t bust your budget? Consider the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel & Water Playground, located right up the street from the theme parks. I’ve been recommending this particular Howard Johnson for years and it receives consistent rave reviews from my readers. I have stayed there multiple times and have always found it a tremendous value.

There are views of the Matterhorn and the fireworks from certain top-floor rooms. Rooms are large, very clean and include a small refrigerator, coffeemaker, hairdryer, iron and ironing board and FREE high-speed wireless Internet. Plus, the hotel just installed 37″ flat-screen HD televisions in every room and expanded its channel line-up.

Disneyland (California) News A Salute to the Golden Horseshoe Revue Part of ‘Limited Time Magic’

A Salute to the Golden Horseshoe Revue will play for four weeks, with shows every Thursday through Monday from January 10 through February 4. Inspired by the world-famous Frontierland show enjoyed by Walt Disney, A Salute to the Golden Horseshoe Revue is an homage to those fun-filled, family-friendly musical variety shows of the past.

Hosted by Miss Lily and her Saloon Girls, the show brings together favorite song and dance numbers such as “Hello, Everybody,” “A Good Man Is Hard to Find,” “Belly up to the Bar” and “Can-Can.”

Guests may reserve a seat for the show at the podium at the Golden Horseshoe entrance on the day you want to see the show. Guests may make a reservation for up to 8 people; the entire party does not need to be present to make a reservation. Tickets for the preferred show time will be issued based on availability. Food will be available for purchase during the general performances, including bite-size Monte Cristo sandwiches.

New ride vehicles (they will still look like the current trains) Track replacement (but the attraction will still follow its current course) Repainting portions of the mountain itself (Walt Disney Imagineering once again studied Bryce Canyon for inspiration) Disney Junior – Live on Stage!

Disney Junior – Live on Stage! at Disney California Adventure is periodically updated to feature the latest, most popular characters and stories from the Disney Junior line-up on television.

In 2013, the top-rated Doc McStuffins and Sofia the First join the show. The new version of Disney Junior – Live on Stage! debuts at Disney California Adventure in March 2013.

Blue Sky Cellar Reopens January 19

Blue Sky Cellar in Disney California Adventure reopens January 19 and will feature artwork and models from Fantasy Faire at Disneyland. Fantasy Faire – which opens in spring 2013 – will be a village square where guests will be immersed in the stories of their favorite Disney princesses.

New 10K Race Added To Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend

The 2013 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend recently announced the addition of the Disneyland 10K. The new 10K will be a timed event and take runners through Disneyland, Disney California Adventure and on the streets of Anaheim. As with all runDisney races, participants will receive a newly designed finishers’ medal.

Runners looking for a bigger challenge can register for the Dumbo Double Dare. A limited number of runners will have the opportunity to take the dare and run the Disneyland 10K on Saturday and the Disneyland Half Marathon on Sunday – 19.3 miles total. Finishers will receive a special finisher medal to help celebrate their accomplishments, in addition to the half marathon and 10K medals.

Registration for all Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend races opens on January 22, 2013. Last year, the popular half marathon sold out in little more than a month, so act quickly. The Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend is August 30 – September 1, 2013.

Mickey and the Magical Map is a new live entertainment experience debuting this summer at the Fantasyland Theatre at Disneyland. The wise sorcerer Yen Sid (“Disney” spelled backward) tells of a wondrous map – one unlike any other – with the power to take dreamers to any place imaginable. But when young apprentice Mickey Mouse attempts to paint the map’s one unfinished spot, he stumbles into a fantastic adventure through worlds of music, color and beloved characters, as he discovers the mystery of the map’s magic!

Disneyland Explorer App Now Available on iPhone and iPod Touch

The Disneyland Explorer app has been updated and is now available for iPhone and iPod Touch.

Take a spin through the same photo-realistic virtual Disneyland in the original iPad app. Favorite activities are all still part of the fun, including classic videos in Mickey’s House, shooting pirate ships in Pirates of the Caribbean, creating your own World of Color show, and singing along with “it’s a small world” in different languages.

Disneyland Explorer is a free download from the App Store. The app is now compatible with iPad (1st generation) and higher, iPad Mini, iPod Touch (4th generation) and higher, and iPhone 4 and higher.

Other Disney Discounts When & Where to Buy Trip Insurance

It is a good idea to buy trip insurance for a cruise or vacation package, because you have to pay the entire cost in advance and you won’t get a refund if you have to cancel right before your scheduled departure. Things can happen: you, your kids or your close relatives might get sick, for example. With hundreds or even thousands of dollars at stake, it’s wise to protect your investment.

It is especially important to buy insurance if you will be taking a Caribbean cruise or visiting Walt Disney World on a package vacation during peak hurricane season (August-September). While cruise ships can easily outrun and sail around hurricanes, ports and airports often close, which can affect your travel plans in a big way. And don’t underestimate the potential of hurricanes to create major problems even in an inland location like Orlando.

Disney sells trip insurance, but it’s expensive and it has major exclusions: it doesn’t cover pre-existing conditions or delays (even weather delays) on air travel you arrange yourself. (Air travel arranged through Disney is covered.) You can almost always get better insurance than Disney provides, and at better rates, by buying it elsewhere.

If you have kids under 18, consider using Allianz for your trip insurance. Kids are included FREE in the Allianz Classic policy, which is a rare and valuable benefit. If you buy that policy within 14 days of making your first payment/deposit on the package, it will also cover pre-existing conditions, unlike Disney’s coverage.

If the Allianz policy isn’t a good fit for you, a great place to comparison-shop for trip insurance is InsureMyTrip.com, where you can see side-by-side policy information and rates for major, reputable insurance companies. I have used Insure My Trip myself to buy trip insurance for several trips. I saved a substantial amount and got much more comprehensive coverage than Disney’s policy would have provided.

Disney Junior – Live on Stage! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is periodically updated to feature the latest, most popular characters and stories from the Disney Junior line-up on television.
