MouseSavers Newsletter July 2012

15/07/2012 13:04 Condividi

MouseSavers Newsletter - July 2012 p h5 body div blockquote table MouseSavers.com - Great deals on all things Disney! MouseSavers Newsletter - July 2012 Welcome!

The big news is that the "Free Dining" offer at Walt Disney World is now available for select dates 9/30/12-12/13/12. This offer is a good deal for many people and an especially great deal if you plan to stay at a Value or Moderate resort (since you have to pay full price for the hotel portion) and/or if you are traveling with kids ages 10-17, who normally are charged "adult" prices for the Dining Plan.

On a personal note, so far Mike and I have had an interesting summer. On June 23, we had to evacuate our home (which is also the "World Headquarters" of MouseSavers.com) because of the Waldo Canyon fire here in Colorado. On June 26, while we were still evacuated, the wind direction changed and pushed the fire into Colorado Springs, where 2 lives and 346 homes were lost to the fire. On our side of the mountain, many acres of trees and brush burned, but all of the homes were saved by the heroic efforts of our local volunteer fire department.

Fortunately, with the assistance of two of my favorite women, Sarah Stone and Kris Borchardt, there were no significant interruptions to MouseSavers operations. Mike and I were comfortably housed in hotels and were able to return to our home after over a week of evacuation. Our house is fine and all is well with us. However, hundreds of local families were not so lucky. Since the fire they have been greatly assisted by the American Red Cross. (Did you know that about 95% of Red Cross workers are volunteers? I didn't until recently!) Please join me in supporting the Red Cross with a financial donation and/or by becoming a Red Cross volunteer.

I hope you're having a great summer, free from fire worries! As you plan your summer fun, don't forget that in addition to hundreds of pages of FREE information about Disney World and Disneyland vacations, MouseSavers.com also provides a wealth of information about discounts and deals at over 20 NON-Disney theme parks and attractions, including SeaWorld, Universal, and other locations in Central Florida and Southern California.

In this month's issue, Sue Pisaturo of Small World Vacations explains Disney's PhotoPass service and offers two great freebies if you book a vacation package with dining through her agency for travel September 30 - December 31, 2012.

There are also terrific deals this month on Disney tickets, hotels and lots more. Plus, of course, there's plenty of great Disney news, too!

Rent Disney Vacation Club Points & Get FREE 3-Year Subscription to TouringPlans!

Hurry, you must book this offer by July 31, 2012!

There's a great way to save on deluxe accommodations at Walt Disney World: renting Disney Vacation Club (DVC) points. DVC members own timeshare "points" that they can use for stays at Disney Vacation Club resorts. Sometimes owners are unable to use the points, so they will "rent" them to others.

Renting DVC points directly through an owner can be difficult and problematic (click here to learn more about that), but now there's a very easy, completely safe way to rent DVC points: through David's Vacation Club Rentals.

Through this special link, receive a FREE 3-year subscription to TouringPlans when you rent and pay for a minimum of 5 nights stay at a Deluxe Disney Vacation Club from David's Vacation Club Rentals (subject to room availability).

Touringplans.com is the official web site of The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World and provides premium trip planning tools to subscribers, including:

Crowd Calendar - 365 days of recommendations of the best and worst parks to visit each day of your vacation

Touring Plans - step by step customized itineraries that will save your family hours in line

Lines - the mobile application that gives you attraction wait times, entertainment schedules, touring plans, and much more right on your web-enabled phone

David's Vacation Club Rentals has been providing quality rentals of Deluxe Disney Villas since 2005 and now you have the opportunity to enjoy two quality products.

Click this special link to take advantage of this terrific offer!

*New reservations only. Minimum of 5 night rental required. Must be booked and paid for by July 31, 2012. Must reserve through special link above. Must book a Studio, 1 Bedroom Villa, 2 Bedroom Villa or Grand Villa (subject to availability). $91.00 part payment required at time of request (refunded if your dates/room types are not available). Limited quantities. Allow 6-8 weeks for processing of the touringplans.com subscription. Offer limited to 1 per family. Offers can not be combined with any other offers. Offer has no cash value.

Grocery Delivery at Walt Disney World

If you won't have a car while on vacation -- or you just don't want to spend your vacation in the supermarket -- a company called Garden Grocer can do your shopping for you and deliver the groceries to your Orlando-area hotel. If you plan to buy more than 2 or 3 grocery items during your stay, using this shopping service will probably save you a substantial amount of money compared with buying food from hotel convenience stores.

My sister-in-law used Garden Grocer and was very happy with the service. Garden Grocer has exact products and prices on its website, which she found easier and more convenient than having to specify every single item, size and brand (as a competing grocery delivery company requires). Garden Grocer has a minimum order of $40. There is a $12 delivery fee on smaller orders, but delivery is FREE if your order is over $200. Tipping the delivery person is at your discretion.

Walt Disney World News 2013 Walt Disney World Vacation Packages Released

2013 vacation packages for Walt Disney World are now available! There are very few changes to the packages for next year, except that the price of the dining plans went up substantially. Adult meal plans went up by 4%-17%, with the biggest increases on the Deluxe Dining Plan (14% or 17%, depending on season).

I am in the process of compiling all the 2013 room rates, with help from some wonderful agents from Small World Vacations. It's a massive job but I hope to have those up on MouseSavers.com within a week or so.

Big Fun Under the Big Top! Expansion Continues for the New Fantasyland

To the delight of fans of the beloved Dumbo, the Flying Elephant attraction, a second Dumbo has taken its place alongside a Dumbo that opened in March. It’s part of the multiyear, largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history. The two Dumbos are connected to a new “big top” area allowing guests to immerse themselves in circus lore in a series of fun, interactive experiences before a spin with their favorite circus elephant.

Guests receive a circus ticket pager that virtually holds their place and notifies them when it’s their turn to board either Dumbo. In the meantime, fun-filled games and experiences are theirs to enjoy – in air-conditioned comfort. Guests electing the FASTPASS option bypass the tent en route to their flight with Dumbo.

Along with the two Dumbos, Storybook Circus now boasts the Barnstormer coaster re-themed to The Great Goofini, the new Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station water play area and the Fantasyland Train Station, a stop on the Walt Disney World Railroad.

Storybook Circus is just the beginning of what guests will discover when the multi-phase project is completed. Here’s more of what’s in store in future phases:

Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid, a major attraction during which guests will travel with Ariel and her friends through their exciting adventures above and below the waves – all against a musical backdrop of songs from the classic film. Adventurers will feel as if they are descending below the ocean’s surface. Once “under the sea,” guests will find themselves immersed in the classic story of The Little Mermaid, sharing Ariel’s adventure through a magical cast of characters and a captivating musical score. (Opens Holidays 2012.)

The castle of the Beast stands majestically upon a hill across an old stone bridge from Ariel’s new home. The Be Our Guest Restaurant will feature a lavish dining experience in the elegant ballroom, gallery, and mysterious “West Wing” of the castle. With seating for 550, this magnificent facility will offer “great food fast” service by day and full table service dining in the evening. Nearby in Belle’s Village, guests will find the rousing Gaston’s Tavern and Bonjour! Village Gifts. (Opens Holidays 2012.)

Just outside the village is Belle’s cottage and Enchanted Tales with Belle. The adventure begins in Maurice’s workshop, where a magical mirror is the doorway to a captivating new kind of storytelling experience: guests will be transported to the Beast’s library to meet Belle and Lumiere, and share in a lively, interactive re-telling of the “tale as old as time.” (Opens Holidays 2012.)

In Princess Fairytale Hall, Aurora, Cinderella and other Disney princesses, such as Tiana and Rapunzel, will greet guests in their new home, an elegant royal court on the site where Snow White’s Scary Adventures was previously located. (Opens Late 2013.)

The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will take guests on a rollicking, musical ride into the mine “where a million diamonds shine.” The coaster will feature a first-of-its-kind ride system with a train of ride vehicles that swing back and forth, responding to every twist and turn of the track. The journey will be accompanied by music from the classic Disney film and animated figures of Snow White and the Dwarfs. (Opens 2014.)

Disney’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend Registration Open

The Disney’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend is scheduled for February 22-24 and will have fun activities for runners of all ages and skill levels - everything from a Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse Royal Family 5K to several Kids Races, plus a health and fitness expo with lots of running apparel and equipment geared toward women. Registration is now open.

If you even think you might want to run, sign up early. The race sold out last year in only a few months, with some 19,000 runners registering for the 13.1-mile run. This year the field is expected to swell to more than 20,000.

Epcot International Food & Wine Festival Reservations Open August 14

Beginning August 14, guests can make reservations for Party for the Senses and other special wine and culinary programs offered at the 17th annual Epcot International Food & Wine Festival at Walt Disney World. Party for the Senses grand tasting events will take place October 6, 13, 20, 27 and November 3 and feature tempting bites from eminent chefs, more than 50 wines and beers and live entertainment.

Stay on the Run at Walt Disney World

If you are coming to Walt Disney World, there are plenty of ways to maintain your healthy and active lifestyle during your visit. In addition to healthy food options and exercise facilities in and around the theme parks and resorts, there are several running/walking trails around the resort for anyone looking to log a few miles while on vacation.

The trails are well marked and vary in length, so they are perfect whether you are a novice runner or an experienced long-distance runner. All the trails are framed by beautiful scenery and/or wildlife. There are trails that take you along Bay Lake between Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and The Campsites at Fort Wilderness Resort or around Seven Seas Lagoon with Cinderella Castle in the distance – just the kind of vistas that can make your run more magical and help you stay fit while making vacation memories.

If you want to hit the trails during your next visit to Walt Disney World, click here or stop by the front desk of any resort for maps and directions.

Small World Vacations LogoSue Says: Don’t Pass on PhotoPass By Sue Pisaturo, Owner of Small World Vacations

I don’t know about you, but I rarely print out my digital photos. I miss the old days when you dropped off a film canister filled with images to be developed. After a few days, you picked up your prints and smiled as you flipped through a pack of glossy memories. Then, you organized your 4 x 6 prints in a photo album. I can still hear the sound those sticky pages made as I pulled back the clear plastic lining to arrange my photos.

Over the years, I have accumulated countless Disney vacation photos on little plastic disk drives. I view them now and then, but it just isn’t the same as holding a good old-fashioned photo album in my hands. I wanted to change this on my most recent family trip to Disney. I was determined to take lots of pictures and use Disney’s PhotoPass system to create a lasting record of our time together in a bound PhotoBook.

It was so easy! Before I left home, I received a Disney PhotoPass card with my final documents along with instructions on how to register online. As soon as we got to the parks, I located a Disney PhotoPass photographer, handed him my card, struck a pose and said cheese!

After a few shots, he asked if we wanted a picture with some extra Disney pixie dust. He told us to cup our hands together and look surprised. He let us in on the secret that Tinker Bell would magically appear in the photo. (Ask your PhotoPass Photographer if they can take a “magic photo” and Mickey, Minnie, Captain Hook, Lilo, Stitch or Simba might join you!)

Each day, before leaving the park, we stopped by the Camera Center to view our PhotoPass photos to make sure they turned out well. Within 30 days after arriving home, I logged onto my PhotoPass account, uploaded images from my own camera and combined them with those taken by the Disney PhotoPass photographers to create a special PhotoPass book. I was able to choose the layout of the pages, add cute Disney artwork and write captions to personalize the memories. When my book arrived in the mail, our family sat down together to relive our vacation as together we turned the pages of our modern day photo album. And no sticky sound effects!

So, don’t pass up Disney’s PhotoPass when you go to Walt Disney World. Look for Disney PhotoPass Photographers in multiple locations in the theme parks, select rides, character meals and meet and greets, select dining experiences, water parks, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutiques and the Pirates League. At the Beach Club, Polynesian, Grand Floridian. Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge, you can arrange a 30-minute private photo session for a fee. (Some restrictions apply and may require the purchase of PhotoPass Plus. Offer subject to change.)

Here are a few tips for using Disney’s Photopass from some Small World Vacations agents:

From Agent Mary:

You can use multiple cards and combine them into one account.

Take a picture of the back of your PhotoPass card(s) with your camera or cell phone. If you lose a card, the 16-digit alphanumeric code from each one is all you need to claim your pictures.

Don’t have Disney’s PhotoPass? Don’t worry - PhotoPass Photographers will gladly snap a shot of your family with your own camera.

From Agent Amber:

If you have a unique idea for a photo and there isn’t a long line, PhotoPass Photographers are happy to get creative with you. I get photos of the kids in the same location each trip to show how much they have grown.

If you book one of the earliest breakfast reservations in the Magic Kingdom, there are PhotoPass Photographers available and the park is almost deserted. It is the perfect opportunity for some adorable shots in front of the castle. On the last couple of trips, we have some cute pix of my kids walking hand-in-hand down Main Street without a soul in sight!

From Agent Sherri:

Have your photo taken at different times of the day or evening, the changes in the light make a big difference.

Make sure you have the PhotoPass Photographers take some pictures after dark with illuminated Disney Icons such as Cinderella’s Castle or Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat in the background.

The more pictures you take, the more you will have to choose from when ordering PhotoPass products such as photo prints, CDs, stationery, greeting cards, ornaments, photo mugs, mouse pads, stickers, magnets, puzzles and canvas prints.

To learn more about Disney PhotoPass go to the official site. For deals on Disney PhotoPass, visit MouseSavers.com.

2013 vacation packages for Disneyland are now available! There are a few changes to the packages:

If you stay at one of the official Disney hotels, you get a morning Extra Magic Hour at one of the parks every morning of your stay. Disneyland early entry is on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Disney California Adventure early entry is on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. (This was previously announced and has applied since 6/18/12 to both 2012 packages and room-only stays.)

If you stay at one of the Good Neighbor hotels and your package includes at least a 3-day ticket, you get a Magic Morning admission to Disneyland one time during your stay, just like before. You do not get Extra Magic Hour access.

Mickey's Toontown Morning Madness is no longer listed for 2013 packages, so presumably it will be discontinued.

No more preferred seating or preferred parade viewing included in 2013 packages.

2013 packages include one 5x7 ride photo from your choice of Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Tower of Terror or California Screamin'.

New In-Park Social Media Tools at Disney California Adventure

Disney recently launched a pilot program at Disney California Adventure that will allow park guests to enjoy their visits even more, using their favorite social networks.

To connect with Disney California Adventure park during your visit, just follow @DCAToday on Twitter or visit the DCA Today Facebook page on your mobile device while you are at the park to receive tips and live updates and to ask questions. These social media tools will help you keep up with what’s going on in the park, including Disney FASTPASS availability, upcoming show times, and character meet-and-greets.

These tools are available at no cost to guests with mobile devices, and park admission is not required for use. Standard data and text messaging rates apply: check with your mobile provider for additional information.

New Interactive Mickey Ears at Disney California Adventure

Disneyland guests light up the night thanks to new Glow with the Show Ear hats that change colors in sync with shows at Disney California Adventure.

The Ear hats feature iridescent lights that change to complement the imagery and beat of the shows. When not activated by the shows, more surprises are in store for guests as the magical ears glow with other settings around Disney California Adventure.

Each set of Glow with the Show Ears is available for $25 at select locations throughout Disney California Adventure. Specialty Glow Ear packages are available for Annual Passholders. The $40 package, including ears, lanyard and pin, is available for purchase while supplies last in Disney California Adventure shops and the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney.

More Magic Comes to Disneyland

Summer 2012 features an exciting array of new and refreshed shows, restaurants and shops at Disneyland and Downtown Disney, with even more magic on the horizon for later this year and 2013.

Disneyland Enhancements

The Matterhorn Bobsleds, a Disneyland landmark since 1959, reopened last month following a five-and-a-half month project which refreshed the mountain inside and out, including glistening, new paint and “snow caps” on the outside and new lighting on the menacing Yeti inside. New three-person bobsleds allow guests to be seated individually. In addition, mountain climbers will thrill guests as they scale the Matterhorn slopes. Unseen on the Matterhorn for several years, they return this summer.

Not far from the Matterhorn lies magical Pixie Hollow, where the weather will be changing this October when a new friend arrives to visit Tinker Bell. Frost fairy Periwinkle, from the upcoming Disney video Tinker Bell: Secret of the Wings, joins Pixie Hollow as it is adorned with frost and ice. Tinker Bell will be clothed in winter gear, too, and her ingenious snow-making machine will help keep Periwinkle cool.

Another new face at Disneyland is Merida, the adventurous, red-headed heroine of the upcoming Disney•Pixar movie Brave. The brave and impetuous visitor from the Scottish Highlands can be found in an interactive meet-and-play experience near “it’s a small world” where young guests can test their skill with a bow and arrow, be part of a Scottish clan, and enjoy the silly antics of Merida’s three wee bear cubs.

In Frontierland, the newly premiered Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree brings music, dancing, crafts, pin trading and plenty of Disney characters (in Western wear) to the space previously known as Festival Arena. Guests may join in and kick up their heels with Billy Hill and the Hillbillies at an old-fashioned Cowboy Roundup or gather to enjoy live performances by visiting schools and community groups, presented by the Disney Performing Arts Program.

Main Street, U.S.A., Enhancements

From Center Street to the Central Plaza at the entrance to Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, the west side of Main Street, U.S.A., now features an array of refreshed shops and restaurants, their turn-of-the-century interiors newly redecorated with period signs, lighting fixtures and woodwork.

Carnation Café now features indoor as well as outdoor seating and some new menu items, including apple-granola pancakes and huevos rancheros for breakfast, plus fresh fish and Walt Disney’s favorite beef-and-pork meatloaf for dinner. Beloved Carnation Café cast member Oscar Martinez continues to greet guests as he has for more than five decades.

Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor has expanded its scooping space and added registers. The menu includes classic sundaes and new ice cream floats.

The Penny Arcade has returned with vintage games and silent movie Mutoscope viewing machines, plus the mystical fortune-telling Esmeralda and the classic Welte Orchestrion organ-and-percussion music machine, purchased for Disneyland by Walt Disney himself.

The Candy Palace has an expanded kitchen that invites guests to watch two kinds of candy being prepared at the same time.

In the Main Street Opera House, the Voices of Liberty, an a cappella vocal group inspired by the popular Voices of Liberty at The American Adventure attraction in Walt Disney World, will perform patriotic songs to entertain guests awaiting the Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln presentation.

New Disneyland Tour

Disneyland fans, dedicated gardeners, and admirers of the Disneyland landscape will all want to experience the “Cultivating the Magic” Tour, which explores Disneyland horticulture. Presented by a Resort Tour Guide, the tour covers landscaping highlights of the park from the “Flower Mickey” at the Main Gate to the spectacular plantings in the Jungle Cruise and Storybook Land. This is one of several tours guests can book.

Coming in Spring 2013

Disney princesses will greet their admirers in a new Fantasy Faire, a magical place nestled near the moat of Sleeping Beauty Castle. Aspiring princesses and knights of all ages may enjoy a visit with a Disney Princess, play a special role in a charming storytelling experience, or visit a merchandise shop filled with royal costumes and accessories. And as the Princesses settle in their new home in 2013, plans will be underway for an all-new show at the Fantasyland Theatre near “it’s a small world.”

When & Where to Buy Trip Insurance It is a good idea to buy trip insurance for a cruise or vacation package, because you have to pay the entire cost in advance and you won't get a refund if you have to cancel right before your scheduled departure. Things can happen: you, your kids or your close relatives might get sick, for example. With hundreds or even thousands of dollars at stake, it's wise to protect your investment.

It is especially important to buy insurance if you will be taking a Caribbean cruise or visiting Walt Disney World on a package vacation during peak hurricane season (August-September). While cruise ships can easily outrun and sail around hurricanes, ports and airports often close, which can affect your travel plans in a big way. And don't underestimate the potential of hurricanes to create major problems even in an inland location like Orlando.

Disney sells trip insurance, but it's expensive and it has major exclusions: it doesn't cover pre-existing conditions or delays (even weather delays) on air travel you arrange yourself. (Air travel arranged through Disney is covered.) You can almost always get better insurance than Disney provides, and at better rates, by buying it elsewhere.

If you have kids under 18, consider using Allianz for your trip insurance. Kids are included FREE in the Allianz Classic policy, which is a rare and valuable benefit. If you buy that policy within 14 days of making your first payment/deposit on the package, it will also cover pre-existing conditions, unlike Disney's coverage.

If the Allianz policy isn't a good fit for you, a great place to comparison-shop for trip insurance is InsureMyTrip.com, where you can see side-by-side policy information and rates for major, reputable insurance companies. I have used Insure My Trip myself to buy trip insurance for several trips. I saved a substantial amount and got much more comprehensive coverage than Disney's policy would have provided.

Other Disney News Disney Cruise Line Unveils New Itineraries and Ports for 2013

In 2013, Disney Cruise Line will offer new itineraries, including an expanded portfolio of European cruises with new destinations such as Venice, Italy, and the Greek Isles. In addition, Disney Cruise Line will utilize a second home port in Florida, with Caribbean sailings departing from the Port of Miami for the first time.

Mediterranean from Barcelona

Beginning June 1, 2013, the Disney Magic returns to Europe with plenty of new twists to the Mediterranean itineraries, including a 4-night option and special 12-night sailings in addition to 7-night itineraries that treat guests to the best of Europe during the summer.

The new 12-night sailings visit destinations such as Venice, Italy, and Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast on one itinerary and Ephesus, Turkey and the Greek Isles including Athens, on another. Each itinerary will offer a sailing departing in June and another departing in July.

All itineraries depart from Barcelona, Spain, as the Disney Magic takes guests on an exciting journey of richly diverse cities, cultures and people.

Bahamas and Western Caribbean from Miami

Disney Cruise Line will sail from Miami for the first time on December 23, 2012. There will be one 6- and one 7-night Caribbean sailing, plus a schedule of 3-, 4- and 5-night cruises from Miami to the Bahamas and Western Caribbean. Ports of call include Cozumel, Mexico; Grand Cayman; Key West; Nassau, Bahamas, and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay.

Alaska from Vancouver

Beginning May 27, 2013, the Disney Wonder will sail 7-night cruises from Vancouver to Tracy Arm, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, Alaska.

Adventures by Disney

Disney Cruise Line and Adventures by Disney will offer families unique land and sea experiences in the Mediterranean. Available on select departures, guests can maximize the magic with 3-night or 4-night pre-cruise Adventures by Disney vacation itineraries in Barcelona and Madrid.

These immersive add-ons allow families to envelop themselves in the culture of the region with VIP access in the most-sought-after tourist destinations – such as the Sagrada Familia Cathedral in Barcelona and the El Prado museum in Madrid – as well as hands-on lessons in archeology, flamenco dancing, local cuisine and stained glass crafting. Each Adventures by Disney departure is led by knowledgeable Adventure Guides who handle all the planning logistics so parents can relax and enjoy quality time with their family.

Families can also enhance 7-night and 12-night Mediterranean sailings with Adventures by Disney Onboard Experience packages. Throughout the voyage, guests will have access to exclusive Adventures by Disney activities and concierge service from dedicated Adventure Guides. These guides will also lead travelers at each port, helping them unlock the wonders of each destination through exclusive excursions and off-the-beaten-path adventures.

Makahiki Restaurant Adds Lunch at Disney's Aulani Resort

Makahiki restaurant at Disney's Aulani Resort on Oahu, Hawaii is best known for its fun Disney character breakfasts and bounteous dinner buffet, but the chefs have now added a lunch menu aptly named “Koho,” which means “to choose” in Hawaiian.

Guests can choose their own pizza toppings, salad blend or sandwich combo, or just order a signature entrée. Pizzas have toppings ranging from classic pepperoni to Portuguese sausage and pineapple. Salads offer several greens and veggies, then cheeses including blue, goat and feta. Add grilled tofu, chicken, shrimp or fish of the day for a hefty meal in a bowl.

Sandwiches range from fish of the day to turkey, ham and roast beef with toppings such as avocado, pesto aioli and four kinds of cheese (American, blue, Swiss and cheddar). There’s a special pizza and a burger just for kids.

Signature entrées include the Hawaiian pizza with ham and pineapple; a crispy Asian salad with candied nuts, crispy wontons, avocado, oranges and pickled ginger; and the Chef’s Special Bento with ahi tuna sashimi, chicken teriyaki, carrot and cucumber namasu (pickled), fried rice and mochi ice cream.

D23 Reveals ‘Treasures’ from Disney Parks, Films and More in a New Exhibit

D23: The Official Disney Fan Club and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum recently opened the doors to a new exhibit – D23 Presents Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives.

This exhibition, covering almost 90 years of Disney history, boasts nearly 500 artifacts — many of which have never been seen by the general public — from Disney movies, television, parks and the early years of the company.

Along with elaborate props, costumes and set pieces from Pirates of the Caribbean, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Mary Poppins and Marvel’s The Avengers, guests can get an up-close look at Walt Disney’s formal office full of his personal effects, see the original Steamboat Willie script penned by Walt himself, and gaze on the original storybooks that opened the animated film classics Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella.

There’s also a treasure trove of delights for fans of Disney Parks, including the original concept drawing of Disneyland park by Disney Legend Herb Ryman, the first ticket sold to Disneyland (purchased by Roy O. Disney), the original bride from the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort, original attraction vehicles from Peter Pan’s Flight and Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, and the imposing head of the original Maleficent dragon from Fantasmic! at Disneyland park.

There is also a section called “Disney’s Hall of Presidents,” a salute to both the classic Magic Kingdom attraction in Florida and the long association Walt Disney and The Walt Disney Company have enjoyed with many residents of the White House dating back to the 1940s.

To learn more about the exhibit, which runs through April 2013, and to purchase tickets (D23 Members receive a discount), click here.

New Halloween Treats Coming to Tokyo Disneyland & DisneySea

Along with decorations, food and merchandise, there will be a new puzzle-solving program at the park called “Tricks & Treats on Halloween Street.” Guests will receive a challenge (in the form of a map) from ghosts and if they solve it, they receive a “treat.”

Tokyo DisneySea will host a new Venetian carnival-style show called “A Halloween Daydream.” It will feature your favorite Disney friends joined by skeletons that were invited by Mickey Mouse. And “Chip ‘n Dale’s Skeleton Fiesta” greeting program should be back this Halloween as well.

- Mary
